Things Fall Apart, Redux

So last night, daughter number three refused to sleep. As it turns out, she's got her first year molars coming in, so I don't blame her for being ornery until about 5:30 this morning; but we didn't figure that out until just a few minutes ago when she tried to bite my finger. If we'd known earlier, we could have doped her up to make her sleep.

Alas.

Now I'm running on just a few hours of inconstant sleep (if that) because, in addition to the one-year old that kept kicking around our bed, I dreamed in Web 2.0 about the inexpensive (read: as free as it can get) possibilities of creating a Mormon poetry e-zine. That kept me from getting anywhere near REM, especially since I kept getting jolted awake by number three's feet, fists, and jibber-jabber and by moments of clarity about my writing projects, though the ideas don't seem so clear this side of morning.

And to top that off, daughter number one didn't want to go to school because she wanted to do what she wanted to do: watch the Disney Channel(s) from dawn to dusk. After stifling her screams of distress by revoking her TV privileges, I finally dragged her to school, where I really hope she was an angel. Because if not...

Oh, and it's my wife and daughter number two's birthday today. So Happy Birthday wife and daughter number two.

I hope your day ends better than mine began.

  2. Ah, birthday fun. I love how much I can relate to this. Lately I have daughter #4 keeping us up until midnight or later and daughter #3 waking up and climbing into our bed shortly after #4 goes down. Plus I have to get up at 4AM most days for work. #3 has a tendency to wake me up a half-hour before my alarm goes off. Right now I have #3 on my lap because daughters #1 & #2 (who share a room with her) wouldn't let her sleep. #4 is down for the moment, but that could easily change.

In other words, I feel for you, man.

Last night, we silenced number three with some ibuprofen and Triaminic. Once she went down, not even a sound.

It's good to know we're not the only ones who get night visitors, though numbers one and two have been quite good lately about staying in their beds once we put them down. Number one is just getting more difficult when she's awake!

  5. Glad to hear your nights are getting more peaceful. I believe your girls are a bit further along than mine, right? My oldest just turned five. Solidarity, brother. We can make it.

Oh, unrelated, did you see my 24 hour film? Sorry for the plug. I posted it on Toward an LDS Cinema, but I doubt many people saw it come up on the feed at AMV because Theric's been posting his RRR's so prolifically (jab, jab, Th. ;) ).

I also forgot that the column is narrower there than on my blog, so I didn't size it right, but there's a link to my pro. blog where you can watch it without the frame cut off 100 or so pixels early.

It's funny, I was biting my fingertips off when I was getting ready to post it - so many people I respect so much might have seen it and it's not my best work, by far. But now that it's up, I'm just anxious for feedback.
